Styles of Foreign Assistance: Does Asian ODA Differ Significantly from that of the West?
May 27-28, 2011 LG Convention Hall Ewha Womans University
The Korea Association of International Development and Cooperation (KAIDEC) will hold its annual spring conference on May 27 and 28, 2011. The conference will feature four themes, “Western Donors”, “Asian Donors”, and “Asian Recipients” on day 1, and “African Recipients” on day 2. KAIDEC invites papers from scholars, professionals, and graduate students.
The differences in ODA practices are likely to derive from a variety of historical and institutional characteristics that distinguish Japan, Korea, and China from their counterparts in Europe and the United States. This conference will compare aid from Asian and Western donors and also examine donor practices in recipient countries. Carol Lancaster from Georgetown University, USA, will be the keynote speaker at the conference. The conference is co-organized by KAIDEC and Institute of Development and Human Security (IDHS), Ewha Womans University. Please note that papers must be written in English.
